As Lysander Spooner said, long ago, "Vices are not crimes". Prohibition never stopped drug use or abuse, it created an unregulated high value commodity market. Ending the persecution of "unapproved" drug users will prevent a lot of social harm. Families suffer hardship when loved ones are dragged to court, or locked up; often after the police have invaded their home and taken their property. The money saved on enforcement can be better spent elsewhere in society. The time wasted, "on the mish", searching for weed, can be better spent at home growing a garden for the family.
I have used cannabis for 45 years and enjoy very good physical health, but my heart is full of anger and sorrow from being made a criminal, by government dictate, based on bad outdated data and international agreements.
